A West Sacramento family has five wrecked cars thanks to one drunk driver. The drunk driving accident happened just before 9:00 at night on July 23, 2020. Donald Sanders said that the accident scene was chaotic. A girl was hysterical, and a guy was on the ground unconscious. Mr. Sanders had just returned home when the accident occurred.
According to police, a 19-year-old driver hit all five of the family’s vehicles parked in front of their West Acre Road home. The driver was allegedly drunk at the time of the crash. She was taken to the hospital.
Other residents in the area said that it could have been worse. They say that accidents like this happen too often because there are no speed bumps along the road. Mr. Sanders said that people run the stop sign at the intersection and drive too fast past his house.
Drunk Driving Accidents in Sacramento
Unfortunately, DUI accidents continue to injure and kill people each year. Even though government agencies and other organizations have worked diligently to educate drivers about the dangers of drunk driving, people continue to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol.
A drunk driver puts everyone on the road in danger. While no one in the above accident was seriously injured, that is not the case in all accidents caused by a drunk driver.
Common DUI accident injuries include, but are not limited to:
- Head and brain injuries
- Paralysis
- Spinal cord injuries
- Back injuries
- Chest injuries
- Broken bones and fractures
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Seat belt and airbag injuries
- Soft tissue injuries
- Neck injuries and whiplash
Some DUI accident victims sustain permanent disabilities and impairments because of a drunk driver. A driver who chooses to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking can change another person’s life forever. An accident victim may not be able to work, care for himself, or return to normal activities because of a DUI crash.
Filing a DUI Accident Claim for Damages
The damages in a DUI accident can be significant. In addition to the physical injuries, pain, and suffering, a person may incur substantial financial losses, including loss of income and medical bills. If the drunk driver caused the accident, the drunk driver could be held liable for damages. If the driver had insurance, the insurance company could be responsible for paying the victim compensation for damages.
A victim of a drunk driving accident may receive compensation for:
- Medical bills and expenses
- Personal care costs
- Physical therapy
- Loss of wages and salaries
- Loss of employment benefits
- Pain and suffering
- Scarring and disabilities
