We are almost at the end of 2019. As we look toward a new year, we want to wish everyone a happy and safe New Year. With that in mind, we would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of a few simple tips that can help you increase your health and wellbeing in 2020.
Tips for a Happy and Healthy New Year
- Eat a well-balanced, healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables.
- Exercise regularly. If you have children, you might want to incorporate a fun, family activity into your weekly routines that allow you to spend time together as a family and exercise, such as walking, riding bicycles, or playing a sport. Just remember to incorporate safety into whatever you do to avoid accidents.

- Get plenty of rest. Our bodies and minds need seven to eight hours of sleep each night. Getting a good night’s sleep is good for our health, but it also helps us avoid driving mistakes that can lead to car accidents.
- Cook meals together as a family. Home-cooked meals can be healthier and less expensive than eating out. You also spend quality time as a family.
- Plan a family vacation. We all need a break from work and daily routines. Set goals for your vacation and work together as a family to reach those goals.
- Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast each day. Your body needs energy, and you are likely to make healthier food choices during the day when you begin your day with a healthy breakfast.
- Get a complete physical. If you have not seen your doctor for a complete physical in the last year or two, it is time for a check-up. Also, make sure you see your dentist regularly.
- Reduce your stress. Let things go that are not important. Stress can take a toll on your mental and physical health.
- Focus on your family and friends. Spend more time with the people you love, doing things that you enjoy during 2020.
- Save money. If you don’t use a personal budget, start the New Year with the goal of creating and living within a budget. A household budget can help you reduce spending so that you can save money for your family vacation.
- Create an estate plan. Everyone can benefit from developing an estate plan. Estate plans encompass retirement planning, long-term care planning, and health care planning.
- Put down the electronics. Make a conscious effort to unplug as much as possible. Electronics and technology are useful, but electronics can become distractions and keep you from making healthy choices.
