Big Rig Tanker Truck Hits 2 Cars in Fiery Auto Accident on Sacramento Highway
A fiery crash resulted on a Sacramento highway today when a tanker truck slammed into 2 cars while two other cars were also damaged on Interstate 80. Four people were injured as a result of the truck accident as traffic was backed up for hours while Sacramento emergency crews put out the fire and cleaned up the roadway.
The CHP reported that the driver of the tanker truck, Darrin Demello of Sacramento, failed to stop when traffic had slowed on the freeway shortly after 5pm. The semi truck rear ended a pickup truck then ran over another car which was lodged underneath the big rig. Another car was also struck as the tanker truck continued down the highway.
The drivers of the truck and car that were lodged together were able to exit both vehicles before the fire broke out. Fortunately the tanker truck was not hauling gasoline at the time which could have resulted in a deadly explosion. Another vehicle involved was an SUV that was damaged as it was hit by car parts.
Sacramento CHP truck accident investigators are looking into why Demello was not able stop his tanker truck as traffic slowed in front of him. It was reported that he was traveling in the fast lane well below the speed limit but did not see the stopped traffic in front of him.
Most of the injuries were minor but a few truck accident victims had major injures and were transported to local hospitals for care.
