Sacramento Motorcycle-Truck Wreck Leaves One Dead, Another Injured
All Sacramento motor vehicle accidents are inherently dangerous. However, the risks involved in a serious wreck increase exponentially when a motorcycle—which leaves its driver and passengers vulnerable to hazards—and heavy trucks collide. One such accident on I-80 in West Sacramento lead to the death of a lane-splitting motorcyclist, and resulted in serious injuries to his female passenger.
73-year-old Robert McDonald was driving his Harley Davidson Electra Glide on I-80 in west Sacramento around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday when the crash occurred. McDonald was navigating his motorcycle between a 24-foot flatbed truck and a tractor-trailer truck when the bike started to wobble. Both McDonald and his passenger, a 52-year-old female, were thrown from the Harley. McDonald was then run over by the rear tandem tires of the flatbed truck, and the passenger was hit by the tractor-trailer truck.
Although both received medical attention at the scene of the accident, McDonald was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The passenger was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
