Traffic was backed up from the collision to Q Street. Information reported by The Sacramento Bee alleges that the crash was a deliberate act related to road rage.
A Honda Fit crashed into a tree, injuring the four occupants. It is believed the occupants were two women and two children. All accident victims were transported to the hospital from the accident scene. Police tried to track the vehicle that caused the collision; however, it was not located.
Can I Recover Damages In A Hit And Run Accident?
In a typical traffic accident, the driver who is responsible for the collision is liable for any damages incurred by accident victims. The insurance company for the at-fault driver pays the accident victims for their damages including, but not limited to:
- Past and future medical expenses
- Past and future lost wages
- Loss of earning capacity
- Property damage
- Funeral expenses
- Physical pain
- Emotional stress and mental anguish
- Travel expenses
- Over-the-counter medications and medical supplies
- Medical equipment
- Personal care and/or long-term medical care
Depending on the circumstances and the facts of the case, an accident victim may be entitled to additional compensation from the other driver’s insurance company. However, in a hit and run accident, there is no insurance company to pay your damages.
The good news is you may still be entitled to compensation for your hit and run accident from your own insurance company. Depending on your insurance coverage, you may be entitled to compensation for the hit and run accident.
Do I Need An Attorney In A Hit And Run Accident?
As with any traffic collision, it is in your best interest to take advantage of the free consultation to get legal advice regarding your rights under California’s personal injury laws prior to settling a claim with an insurance company. You may believe that dealing with your own insurance company protects you from the tactics used by insurance companies to reduce the amount of compensation paid on claims. This is not true!
Your insurance company is like all other insurance companies — it is in business to make a profit. Paying large settlement amounts decreases the company’s profit margin. Therefore, your insurance company treats your accident claim just like any other accident claim. You need an attorney to ensure that your insurance company does not take advantage of you by offering a low settlement amount and pushing you to accept the offer.
