The annual Sacramento Walk for Brain Injury Raises Funds to Support Those Affected by Brain Injury.
Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) have become a very serious threat to accident victims in Sacramento and throughout the nation. Each year there are over 2.4 million TBIs that result in deaths or permanent disabilities. TBIs can be a result of a blow or bump to the head that results in the disruption of normal brain function. Brain injuries can be mild resulting in subtle symptoms all the way to severe trauma events that lead to unconsciousness, amnesia or event death in extreme accidents.
When victims suffer a Traumatic brain injury in Sacramento or California their families often feel like they are all alone and have no place to go for the support and help they desperately need. This was the reason that the annual Sacramento Walk for Brain Injury began over 8 years ago.
Every year in March, thousands of Sacramento area residents support the Walk for Brain Injury by raising money and awareness about traumatic brain injuries. The event is held at the State Capitol in Sacramento where supporters walk to help bring attention to the need for research and lobbying to help the brain injury victims.
One of the many victims of a traumatic brain injury include Eric Williams, a fireman and paramedic with the city of Folsom, who was injured after being hit by a bicyclist near his house. After being in a coma for many day, Eric overcame overwhelming odds to survive. He spent months in rehab while slowly being able to regain use of his legs and arms. Eric’s family and supporters created “Team Strong Will” to support him in his efforts to return to a normal functioning life.
Many people like Eric could not have survived or even possibly returned to a normal life if it wasn’t for the support and efforts of the people that participate in the annual Sacramento Walk for Brain Injury every year. Stay tuned for updates on Eric’s recovery and the efforts of this group helping Traumatic brain injury victims in Sacramento get their life back.
