Fox40 reported on a tragic vehicle accident in Manteca involving multiple vehicles and a commercial vehicle. Five vehicles and a commercial truck were involved in the collision that occurred on Highway 120 at Main Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the commercial truck rear-ended a Chevy pickup truck that had slowed or stopped with traffic in front of it. This caused the Chevy pickup truck to collide with the Honda Accord in front of it before going over the Honda and flipping over.
The chain-reaction occurred when the Honda Accord crashed into a Mercedes before being pushed off the side of the road where it caught fire. The Mercedes then collided with a Chevy sedan that overturned before hitting a Chevy SUV that also overturned.
The driver of the Honda Accord that caught on fire died in the crash. At the time of the news report, the accident was still being investigated by the highway patrol.
Sorting Out Responsibility
You may assume that the commercial truck driver is responsible for the above crash because the multi-vehicle collision began with the commercial truck. This may be true; however, it is not always easy to determine fault in a multi-vehicle accident. Even if the highway patrol charges the truck driver, the accident victims must still prove the driver was at fault for the collision that caused their specific injury. This may involve hiring experts to reconstruct how the accident occurred to show without any doubt who caused the collision.
Proving fault is an essential step in a car accident case. If you cannot prove fault, you cannot recover compensation for your injuries. Therefore, you need a Sacramento car accident attorney who can perform a thorough accident investigation to determine all of the parties at fault to ensure each party is named in your claim. By naming all responsible parties in a car accident claim, you maximize your chance of receiving full compensation because you maximize the amount of insurance available for your claim.
For example, if you are involved in a multi-vehicle accident caused primarily by one vehicle, but another vehicle contributed to the collision, you may have a claim against both drivers. You need a Sacramento personal injury attorney who has experience handling complex car accident claims to investigate the collision and prepare a claim against all responsible parties.
Your Time To File A Car Accident Claim Is Limited
You also need to remember that you must file your car accident lawsuit within a certain period or you may lose your right to recover compensation. In a multi-vehicle car accident, it may take several months or even a year to determine the at-fault parties and gather evidence to prove your case. If you wait too long to retain an attorney, you may limit his ability to build a strong case because the deadline to file a lawsuit is close. The quicker you retain a Sacramento car accident attorney, the better it is for your accident claim.
