A Sacramento teenager died in a multi-car collision on the Capital City Freeway Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol reported that 15-year-old Haylie Jordan died when the Ford Focus she was riding in was rear-ended by a pick-up truck around 4:00pm Sunday. The impact of the Ford truck pushed their small car into the back of the tractor trailer. Haylie who was riding in the backseat died at the scene. The other occupants of the car and pickup driver suffered only minor injuries. The big rig tractor driver did not sustain any injuries.
Teachers, Students and staff members at El Camino Fundamental High School are mourning the loss of Haylie Jordan,.
Jordan was well know at her school as being exceptionally helpful, sweet and full of life. She was a member of the El Camino High School dance team.
The high school’s dance team coach spoke about Haylie as someone who made everyone feel very comfortable and loved. Her coach also said that Haylie was very talented and never put barriers up for herself. She loved dancing and competed in a dance competition earlier this year.
The CHP’s initial report stated that the big rig driver came to a stop when he noticed traffic stopping ahead. The driver of the Focus had also braked behind the tractor trailer. Then the driver of the pickup truck, which was traveling very fast, hit the read end of the car Haylie was traveling in. The impact sent the small car into the back to the semi.
The driver of the car was Brad Davis. Her mother, Jamie Davis, was riding in the passenger side of the car. The driver of the pickup truck, Pat Montgomery from Sacramento, is 60 years old.
The pickup truck and Ford Focus were severely damaged. The tractor trailer sustained only minor damage to the back of the trailer. It is believed that drugs and alcohol did not factor into the accident.
CHP spokesman Officer Michael Bradley reported that the crash is being investigated and there has been no citations issued to date.
