Are you making resolutions for the New Year? Many people use New Year’s Day to begin a healthier lifestyle, improve finances, save money, or look for love. Whatever your resolution will be for 2018, we want to help you keep that resolution. Below are several tips that can help you stay on track in 2018 to keep your New Year’s resolutions.
Think Small!
Setting several smaller goals can be better than having one large goal. When you achieve goals, you feel good about what you are doing, and you feel encouraged to keep going. Take your goal and break it into several steps. Celebrate reaching each goal on your way to accomplishing your ultimate goal for 2018.
Get Support!
It is much easier to stick with something if you have a support system. If you are trying to lose weight, find a fitness buddy you can exercise with and compare healthy eating habits with each week. When you are trying to save money, try to find a friend who would like to do the same and plan activities that are low-cost. Being accountable to someone can often help you keep your resolution.
Never Stop!
Do not become discouraged if you have a misstep or you make a mistake. You are not perfect, but you are hardworking and diligent. If you make a misstep, you need to regroup and focus on moving forward toward your goal instead of how you messed up.
Be Realistic!
Setting goals for yourself that you cannot achieve is simply setting yourself up to fail. Instead of resolving to lose 100 pounds, begin with a goal of 20 pounds. The best way to keep on track is by setting yourself up to win. Celebrate your progress and reward yourself along the way.
Write it Down!
It helps to see your plan in writing. Writing your plan down also helps you identify weaknesses, so you can find ways to overcome those to prevent setbacks along the way.
Pick One Thing!
Setting multiple resolutions can be overwhelming. Pick one thing you want to focus on for 2018 and put all your energy into accomplishing this goal. If you get to your goal during the year, nothing is saying you cannot choose another resolution to work on for the remaining portion of 2018.
Have a Backup Plan!
As you write down your resolution and your plan to achieve your goal, brainstorm about things that could hinder you on your path to success. For each potential stumbling block, think of ways to overcome the obstacle. By having a backup plan in place, you are less likely to stumble if you do encounter problems along the way.
