Fox40 reported on a tragic head-on collision that injured one person and killed another person. The crash occurred around 5 a.m. less than a mile south of the Highway 50 exit on Scott Road in Folsom. The Folsom Police said three vehicles were involved in the collision that closed down Scott Road until later that afternoon.
A 19-year old driver crossed the center line striking two vehicles before crashing into a ditch. The driver of the vehicle died at the accident scene. One driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the other driver was uninjured. The Folsom Police Department’s Major Accident Reconstruction Team remained on the scene for hours attempting to reconstruct the accident to determine exactly what happened.
A spokesman for the police department stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be involved in the accident. It is unknown if the driver was distracted or fell asleep immediately prior to the collision.
Determining Fault In A Car Accident
As shown above, sometimes determining exactly what happened immediately prior to a car accident can be difficult. In some cases, accident reconstructionist must be used to reconstruct the accident to determine what happened and which driver caused the collision. In the above accident, there were witnesses who could corroborate what happened immediately prior to the collision, but this is not always the case.
Suppose that only two vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no other vehicles around at the time of the collision. If there are no eyewitnesses, it comes down to one driver’s word against the other driver’s word. This is a case where an accident reconstructionist may be able to help. By reconstructing the collision, an accident reconstructionist can tell which vehicle caused the collision.
Of course, the other driver may hire his own expert to refute the testimony of your expert; therefore, it is crucial to build a strong case using all available evidence. For this reason, you want to hire an experienced Sacramento traffic accident attorney.
