Deadly I-5 accident in Sacramento Caused by a Drunk Driver
A Sacramento resident was killed and three other people injured after a drunk driver hit a wall and light pole then walked into traffic as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
The multi-car accident happened just after 4:00 a.m. when Timothy Bolton struck a safety barrier then a light pole on Interstate 5 in Sacramento. Bolton then exited his car and started running down the highway in an attempt to evade arrest. When Bolton ran into on-coming traffic, fleeing the scene, Mohammad Rouf tried to avoid hitting him and the downed light pole then hit several other cars with his truck. Tragically the second crash took the life of Rouf.
The CHP reported that Bolton was believed to be on a controlled substance and was booked into Sacramento county jail. A woman riding in Bolton’s car and two other people were transported to a local hospital.
Both sides of the freeway were affected by the accident which created some road closures. It took Sacramento emergency crews several hours to move the wrecked cars from the roadway.
