The Sacramento Bee published a very interesting article related to DUI accidents in Sacramento County. While we agree with the author that predicting where a DUI accident may occur is not likely, it is interesting to know if a specific intersection or area is more prone to drunk driving accidents. After analyzing 4,500 traffic accidents related to alcohol, the author found that DUI accidents occurred more frequently in some Sacramento County locations and during particular times during the day and night.
Freeway Crossings
A location that was prone to drunk driving accidents was freeway crossings. The freeway crossings that had the most DUI accidents between 2013 and 2015 were:
- Capitol City Freeway and I-5 interchange
- Highway 50 and Highway 99
- Interstate 80 and Madison Avenue
In addition to freeway crossings, midtown and downtown Sacramento had a high number of alcohol-related traffic accidents. When Do DUI Accidents Happen In Sacramento County?
The time of day/night also has an impact on alcohol-related traffic accidents. The data revealed that most DUI accidents occur on the weekends and in the hours just after midnight. The most common time for alcohol-related accidents in Sacramento County was on Sundays between the hours of 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. The second and third most common time for drunk driving accidents was also in the very early morning hours. If you can avoid being on the road in the early morning hours of the weekend, you may avoid a DUI accident.
Do I Need A Sacramento DUI Accident Attorney?
Yes, it is always a wise step to consult with an experienced DUI attorney before signing a release, providing a statement, or accepting a settlement offer from an insurance adjuster. Being charged with DUI and being convicted of a DUI is not proof of fault in a car accident claim. To recover compensation for your injuries, you must still prove that the other driver caused the collision and you suffered injuries as a result of the collision.
A DUI charge and conviction may be a factor in the case; however, it is not always a conclusive evidence of fault. The DUI only proves that the other driver was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the collision. Therefore, our Sacramento DUI accident attorney will conduct an independent accident investigation to gather evidence that proves the other driver was responsible for the collision.
Once fault is determined, the next step in a DUI accident is to determine the value of the claim. Damages we include when calculating a settlement amount include, but are not limited to:
- All medical costs related to the accident
- All loss of income, including lost wages, bonuses, raises, and future loss of earning capacity
- Property damage
- Other out-of-pocket expenses related to the accident, your injury, or your recovery
- Physical pain, mental anguish, and emotional suffering
- Disfigurement, scarring, and permanent disability
Our car accident attorneys have extensive experience investigating and handling DUI accident cases.
