According to a report by Fox40 News, a man and young woman were killed in a car crash on Power Inn Road last Thursday. The 45-year old man, who was a new father, was riding his motorcycle on the southbound side of Power Inn Road. A Honda traveling in the opposite direction turned left onto 53rd Avenue in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist died at the accident scene. An 18-year old woman who was a passenger in the Honda died later at the hospital.
The police are unsure if speed may have been a factor in the collision; however, the driver of the Honda tested negative for alcohol. Residents along Power Inn Road and the Sacramento Police Department report that this area is dangerous and prone to accidents, in part because motorists tend to exceed the speed limit for the road.
Our firm extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victims of this tragic motor vehicle accident.
Accidents Caused by Dangerous Roads
The above tragic accident may be an example of where dangerous roads were a factor in a wrongful death and traffic accident. Each year, thousands of people are killed or injured because roads are not properly maintained or have a defect in the design that makes the road hazardous for drivers. Some examples of elements that can make a dangerous road include:
- Roads with severe cracks and potholes
- Missing or broken guardrails
- Dangerous shoulder drop-offs
- Defective, improper, or absent warning signs
- Obstructions at intersections and crosswalks
- Improper drainage causing slippery surfaces or flooding
- Lack of maintenance
- Defective or shoddy materials or workmanship
- Ignoring evidence that accidents keep occurring on a specific section of road
- Exit and entrance ramps that are too short
- Dangerous slopes and dips in the road
Any of the above factors or other factors that lead to a car accident could result in a claim against the state, a local municipality, or another third party responsible for the dangerous condition that led to the car accident. Dangerous and defective roads are a problem throughout California, and our car accident attorneys work diligently to protect the rights of injury victims to receive compensation when they are hurt because of a hazardous road condition.
Filing a Claim Because of Dangerous Roads
Filing a claim for an accident caused by a dangerous or hazardous road condition can be difficult. Claims against government bodies who are responsible for designing and maintaining roads are different from claims against other parties. Strict and short time limits are in place for filing claims against government agencies. Furthermore, government entities have legal teams in place to defend claims against them.
You need an experienced Sacramento dangerous road attorney to file your claim. An attorney who has experience handling these types of crash cases understand the time limits for claims, the special rules for filing claims against a government agency, and the resources required for investigating and pursuing a hazardous road condition accident claim.
